W-Five (W5) is an investigative journalism show on Canada’s CTV network (think “60 Minutes”, “20/20″ “Dateline NBC” etc). And this coming Saturday, December 6 they are either showing or talking about a documentary called “Pharma Sutra” that talks about three treatments in development for FSD (Female Sexual Dysfunction), or FSAD (Female Sexual Arousal Disorder).
The treatments are a pill (?), a patch – which is likely the testosterone patch which didn’t get approved by the FDA but is available by prescription in the UK, and a nasal spray – which is certainly either going to be Bremelanotide or its successor from the same company, PL-6983 (depending on how uptodate this documentary is).
I’ll post more when the documentary airs, but until then you can read a bit about that “Pharma Sutra” documentary here, or about Bremelanotide (called the ‘female viagra’) or Pl-6983 or Palatin Technologies, who is developing PL-6983, after their attempt to get FDA approval of Bremelanotide was shot down.
Let’s hope the documentary has some good news!

Hello Jennifer,
Please, if possible, keep me posted on the Canadian program you mentioned, W5, regarding PL-6983. I am a breast cancer survivor whose cancer was hormone-responsive and I’m post-menopausal since my treatment, and I still must take a medication which eradicates any sign of hormones in my body in order to protect me from a recurrence of my cancer. As a result, my sex life has changed dramatically for the worse, and I (along with many other BC survivors) am following the development of Bremelanotide very closely. We can’t get this TV program in the US, so I would really appreciate any information from the show.
Thanks!!
Liza

Hi Liza,
The documentary itself *might* become available on other outlets (TV stations) in the future, since – as far as I know – it’s not just an episode of W5 , but a stand alone documentary that’s merely being featured there.
However I will definitely post about the show soon after it airs and do my best to make it available to you and other readers to see if at all possible. At worst, I’ll summarize what they discuss on the show and mention any websites or additional sources of information I think you might be interested in.
Thanks very much for writing and congratulations on being a BC survivor. I hope Bremelanotide / PL-6983 will return to you the quality of life you deserve.
Jennifer.

Hi Dora,
I don’t have your email address, but please check back soon as I will initially post a quick summary of the show, and then continue to look for a video link online to post later.
I’m sure it will appear sometime soon and I’ll add a new post to this blog with a link to the video as soon as I find it.
It was quite a good documentary, although still referring to PL-6983 as “Bremelanotide (aka PT-141)”; which is understandable since that development – Palatin switching from developing Brem to the new Pl-6983 – is fairly recent, and most of the discussion in the doc was related to the development of that drug.
So come back soon for a summary and eventual video link.
And thanks for commenting
